Composition of Celebrex

The empirical formula is C17H14F3N3O2S and the molar mass is 381.38 g/mol. The oral capsules of Celebrex consist of 400 mg, 200 mg, 100 mg or 50 mg of celecoxib along with the inactive substance: gelatin, sodium lauryl sulphate, edible inks, lactose monohydrate, croscarmellose sodium and povidone.

Uses

Celebrex is used to treat acute pain, discomfort, menstrual pain and familial FAP. The swelling, tenderness, fever and pain caused by arthritis is relieved by this drug by helping you to perform daily activities normally. This medication works by stopping the enzymes which make prostaglandins in your body. Reduced amount of prostaglandins helps in decreasing the swelling and pain.

How to use Celebrex

This medicine is administered orally once or twice in a day. The recommended dosage of this drug is 200-400 mg every day. To reduce the possibility of stomach disorders, celebrex is best taken with meal. Swallow the capsule with water and sit upright for 10 minutes after consuming the drug.

Side-effects

Gas or stomach upset may occur. This drug may also increase your blood pressure. Consult your doctor/ physician right away, if any of the following side-effects are observed:

  • Extreme headache
  • Swollen feet/hands
  • Indigestion
  • Nervousness
  • Stuffy or runny nose
  • Sore throat
  • Intestinal/stomach ulcers
  • Severe tingling
  • Bruises
  • Muscle weakness
  • Insomnia
  • Pain/warmth/swelling in the calf/groin
  • Variation in the amount of urine
  • difficulty in swallowing

  • loss of appetite
  • vomiting
  • yellowing skin/eyes
  • burning sensation in eyes

  • black colored stool

Contraindications

Inform the doctor about any allergies to NSAIDs like ibuprofen or aspirin, or other COX-2 inhibitors. Let the doctor be aware of your medical history, mainly of: liver disease, esophagus disorders, stroke, high blood pressure, blood disorders or kidney problems. Complications are more likely to take place when your body is dehydrated or you are old or had a kidney disease or heart failure. To prevent dehydration, doctors advise to drink a lot of fluids. Celebrex may also cause bleeding in stomach. Regular use of tobacco and alcohol during the intake of the medicine may raise the possibility of stomach bleeding.

Intake of Celebrex during pregnancy

Females of childbearing age must speak to their doctors about the advantages and risks (like trouble in conceiving, miscarriage). This drug should be used during pregnancy only when it is an emergency. During the 1st and last trimesters, the medication is not recommended due to the potential risk to the fetus and hindrance in normal delivery/labor. This medicine is excreted into the human milk. However, there are no reports of risk to the nursing babies, contact your doctor/physician before breast-feeding.
