Drug Uses

A drug used for birth control, Desogen is widely prescribed by doctors.

How Taken

Always take Desogen as per the doctor’s direction. Desogen can be taken with or without food. For better results, you should have to take all the pills in the pack.  

Missed Dose

Take care that you do not miss any pill. During the first three weeks, if you miss to take a pill and remember it the same day, take it. If you have forgotten to take Desogen until the next day, you have to consult the doctor.

More Information

The drug is known to cause changes in vision and dizziness. These can worsen if the drug is mixed with alcohol or some other medication. You should not drive unless you feel comfortable. The drug should only be taken by those for whom it has been prescribed.

Warnings/Precautions

It is better to discuss about your health history with the doctor before you go for Desogen. You have to discuss with him if you are allergic to some particular food or to some substances in the drug.

If you are having high blood pressure, triglycerides levels, high cholesterol, calcium levels, pancreatitis, then you have to do what the doctor says. Do not hesitate to tell the physician if you have fibrocystic disease, breast nodules, abnormal breast x–ray, endometriosis or endometrial carcinomas, irregular menstrual periods and uterine fibroids.

Discuss with him if you have diabetes, epilepsy, or if you have a history of mental depression. If you are a heavy smoker and older than 35 years of age, you should have to talk with the doctor of the complications. It is also good not to become pregnant while you are taking Desogen. Avoid breast-feeding if you are taking Desogn as it is found in breast milk. Even if you are not breast-feeding after delivery, do not take the drug. It is advised to wait for 4 weeks after the delivery.

It is also seen that some medicines do not go along with Desogen. So it is better to tell the doctor all the medications that you take.  

The drug should not be taken if there are blood clots in the legs, lungs, or eyes. A person with a history of chest pain, stroke and heart attack should not take Desogen. If you have breast cancer or any cancer of uterus, vagina or cervix, vaginal bleeding, liver tumor or any other liver disease, you have to avoid Desogen. It is also known that the drug can cause dark skin patches on the face. When going out in the sun, it is better to use some sunscreen lotion or cream so as to prevent the dark patches from becoming darker.

It is also better to tell the doctor three to four weeks in advance if you are going to have some surgery or going to have long journey. This is needed as some precaution is needed during this time.

Some times one can experience bleeding when taking Desogen. However, you should not stop taking the drug. If this continues for more than seven days, you have to call the doctor.

Desogen’s effect decreases if you are using certain antibiotics and anticonvulsants.
