How Taken

Levlen should be taken as prescribed by the doctor. The drug can be taken with or without food. You have to start taking Levlen on the first Sunday after the periods begin. It should be noted that the drug should be taken the same time every day for better results.

Missed Dose

If you have missed a dosage and remember it the same day, then it can be taken. But if you only remember it the next day, it is better to see the physician. You may need some other birth control precautions if you have missed the dosage.

More Information

The drug may cause dizziness. This can worsen if Levlen is mixed with other medications or alcohol. You should not drive unless you know about your condition. The drug should not be taken by others for whom it has not been prescribed.

Warnings/Precautions

Levlen should be taken only after consulting the doctor. You have to tell the physician about all your medical history so that he can analysis all aspects before prescribing the drug. If you are allergic to a particular food or anything else, you have to intimate the doctor.

Do not hesitate to tell your physician if you have endometriosis, abnormal mammogram, growths in the uterus, gallbladder problems, irregular periods, diabetes, heart problems, migraine, high blood cholesterol, high blood pressure, kidney and blood problems, depression, high blood calcium levels, lupus, chorea.

If you think you will be pregnant consult your doctor as the drug should not be used while you are conceiving. When you are taking Levlen, you should not breast feed as the drug is found in the breast milk. Levlen should also be not used if there is a history of blood clotting problems. estrogen–dependent growths, cervical and vaginal cancer, liver disease or tumors.

It is better to tell your doctor all the medication that you are taking as some medicines are seen to interact with Levlen.

If you are planning for a long trip or going to have some surgery, you have to tell the doctor three weeks in advance. The drug is known to bring dark skin patches on the face. You have to use a sunscreen when going out to prevent the dark patches getting darker.

When using Levlen, there are chances that you experience bleeding or spotting. But you should not stop taking Levlen after you experience this and if bleeding continues for more than 7 days, you have to see the doctor.

You should also quit smoking while taking Levlen as it only increases the risk of heart attack and stroke. It is also better to avoid taking anticonvulsants and antibiotics as these decrease the effect of Levlen.
